Genesis, the Florida-based Engineering, Planning, Landscape Architecture, and CEI firm, celebrates the one year anniversary of the Grand Opening of Cascades Park on March 14, 2014. Bringing together arts, entertainment, education, history and wellness, Cascades Park has enhanced the sense of community in Tallahassee. While serving as a social center in Leon County, Cascades Park has provided flood relief to the roads, neighborhoods and surrounding areas during major storm events.
Beginning in 2002, Genesis worked with Blueprint 2000, the Leon County-City of Tallahassee intergovernmental agency to plan, design, engineer and oversee construction of the landmark. Since then, the Park has won multiple awards for the effective and aesthetically pleasing pair of a stormwater management system with a multi-purpose recreational design. These awards include: 2014 Florida Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA) Award of Excellence, 2014 Urban Land Institute (ULI) North Florida Awards for Excellence, 2014 American Public Works Association (APWA) Big Bend Florida Chapter Project of the Year Award, and 2015 Florida Institute of Consulting Engineers (FICE) Engineering Excellence Grand Award.
In celebration of the anniversary of Cascades Park, the City of Tallahassee is hosting a Birthday Bash this Saturday, March 14, from 5 – 10 p.m. The event features music, cupcakes and games, complete with a family-friendly movie located in the park. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, please visit DiscoverCascades.com .
