Callaway-Pullen Roads Preliminary Engineering Study

Client: City of Tallahassee
Location: Tallahassee, FL
Size: 0.8 Miles
Service: Transportation & Mobility

Highlights:
Contact Staff: Mark T. Llewellyn Sr., P.E.

The project was designated as a Pedestrian and Street Safety (PASS) project by the City of Tallahassee and a study was completed to document the need for multi-modal transportation improvements necessary to accommodate the significant growth within the project corridor. The study presented viable improvement alternatives and provided City officials with analyses and data to assist in the selection of a conceptual design.

A Preliminary Engineering Report was prepared to document detailed engineering and environmental analyses to identify a preferred improvement strategy that provided the least social, economic and environmental impact.

A significant amount of pedestrian and bicycle activity occurs along this corridor, due primarily to the presence of student and residential housing. The existing roadway consisted of two travel lanes with roadside swales and some isolated sidewalks.

The proposed improvements included:

  • Reconstruction of the roadway
  • Enclosing ditches
  • Relocating utilities
  • Adding curb and gutter
  • Constructing sidewalks and bike lanes on both sides of Callaway and Pullen Roads.

Location and design for future Stormwater Management Facilities were included in the Study. The need for additional right of way was evaluated and total project costs were estimated.
