Genesis developed a conceptual street improvement and beautification plan for the Ybor City Development Corporation. The plan identified the 13th Street/Platt Street corridor as the feature link for connecting the Tampa Convention Center District in downtown Tampa to the Ybor City National Historic Landmark District. At the time, the corridor already carried a significant level of traffic, but was anticipated to take on an even more prominent role as the Florida Aquarium and other Channel District projects are completed within the next five years.

This 2.3-mile long streetscape project also included a proposal for interconnecting Nuccio Parkway with 13th Street, the development of ‘round-abouts’ at several street intersections, and the inclusion of a street trolly car (light rail) system. Also identified were massive landscaping modifications and the addition of turn lanes, lighting, signage and right-of-way acquisition. This streetscape improvement project was critical to the development of Tampa’s Ybor Historic District, Channel District, and Convention District.
