In 2005-2006, Genesis conducted a twelve (12) month comprehensive traffic study along an 18.4 mile corridor of County Road 30-A. This roadway is a constrained two-lane facility which parallels the Gulf of Mexico and serves a variety of land uses. The focus of the study was to promote connectivity between these land uses.

Public input was a very important facet of this study. A website and a toll-free phone number were provided to gather public feedback and monthly public hearings were held to share findings and collect more feedback. Surveys were also conducted to analyze the needs and opinions of residents, business owners and visitors.

Public opinion was combined with study findings, traffic projections, environmental concerns and multi-modal components to create a short-term and a long-term improvement plan for the corridor.

Quarterly meetings were held to update the Walton County Board of Commissioners on the progress of the study. Plan development was further coordinated with the 30-A Advocacy Group to help with their pursuit of a Florida Scenic Highway designation.

Final plans were incorporated with the development of a new Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Code to establish design standards and traffic concurrency policies.

A cost estimate was developed for all infrastructure improvements based on the final plans adopted by the Walton County Board of Commissioners.
